Two Wars
The inhumanity of man against man,
is beyond belief.
You were a hunted animal twenty-four hours a day.
There were two wars.
A military war,
and a war against the Jews.
I was old.
I was only sixteen,
but I was old now.
The Nazis,
are taking our Jewish infants,
and tearing them in half.
They were grabbing Jews,
wether they had papers or not.
They hanged there for one full week.
It was more important to the Germans,
to extinguish all the Jews,
than winning the war.
We were all sick like dogs.
We Jews only get a crust of bread,
and a little soup.
Well, Jew,
Don't worry.
We'll find work for you.
Box cars full of dead bodies.
Burning humans just to get rid of them faster.
Mom's parents died in Auschwitz.
Rationale:
I picked words and quotes from the two stories, that I felt best emphasized the "second war". Everyone associates the Holocaust with WWII. Yes, it was one of the main causes of the war, but listening to the descriptions of people who were there gave me an impression of the Holocaust being a war in itself. There was so much hatred towards the Jews, that when WWII was lost, the Germans still did everything in there power to exterminate the Jews. I've tried to emphasize the severity of the genocide in this poem.
